Tukutuku

This is my Tukutuku:
The black represents darkness
The white represents light
The blue is Ranginui
The green is Papa
The four designs on the sides are Rūaumoko, Tāwhirimātea,
Rongomatāne and Tangaroa
The Black in the middle is Tānemahuta

We done these Tukutuku because of how our environment
is falling to ashes and how we will die soon. What we are
saying is that we are telling you to help instead of making
all of us die. This Tukutuku is based on Papa and Rangi and
the gods are slowly dying.

First we had to do it on a piece of paper and draw what
design we would do. There were little boxes that could fit
x’s in it. Once we done it on a piece of paper, we had to
draw the designs on the Tukutuku panel. When you’re done,
show it to a kaiako then we will be given strips to fit it
into the holes.

Te Kotuku performance

Last Saturday we had our second kotuku
performance. Last year we won the kirkwood
trophy but we had to give it back this year.
We were the last group to perform and had
heaps of time to get ready. I was the last
one to get ready because I needed some
privacy.

While Te Mura o Tāmaki were doing vocal
warm ups, my moko was done and I had to
put on my maro. When I was done I joined
my group and done some vocal warm ups.

When we were on our way to Ruapootaka
Marae all the boys went in one van and the
girls went in the other van. When we arrived there, we made our way to the entrance. We took a picture and made our way to the back off the stage. We were having our final karakia
getting ready to perform.

After our performance we got dressed then
went outside. They gave away the
participation awards to all the kura that
performed. Later on, they announced the
winner. THE WINNER IS… ST KENTIGERN
GIRLS SCHOOL!!! When it was announced we
stood up and did a haka tautoko. It didn’t
matter if we didn’t win because we didn't
need to win twice. We went back to school
and had a kai haakari. We had a good day
and a good performance.

My Weekend

My Weekend
On Sunday in the morning i had touch training. It started at
12:00pm so we left about 11:30am. When we got their it
was like almost 11:50am. When we got there and no one
was there we were the first ones too come.

My Dad was looking around and saw a train going around
the soccer field that was there. We went to go and see it
but just before we got there we saw my cousin with his
dad here.

Later on our coach arrived with his son and told us too
get ready for training. It was just us there at training then
later on our other teammates came. We were doing some
stretches and sets for practice when we play our touch
games.

Touch training was over and we then went home. My legs
were sore and i was tired so i watched some youtube
then went too sleep. That was probably the sorest day
i ever had.

On Thursday last week one of my Cousins and Auntys were
coming to visit. My Cousins names were Kingston,
Zahara, Geremaia, and Mishhiyn. My Aunty’s names
were Shaney, and Jazz. Mishhiyn was one of my cousins
that lived in Rotorua with her mum Aunty Jazz.

When we arrived their my cousin (Davontaye) was carrying
a big box of coke cans, their was about 30 cans in that
box. They had these names that were called
“Share a coke with Dad, Mum, Koro, Kuia, Pops, Nana,
Bro, Sis, An egg, Westie, Legend, Mate, and Bestie.

We all grab an coke can and whichever name it said we
had to be called that name. I got Mate, Zahara and
Geremaia got pops, Mishhiyn got Sis, Davontaye got
an egg. We finished our coke cans and went too the slide. I got my Grandad’s Gopro and took it with me too the
slide so that he could watch me slide down. It was a
waterproof Gopro and could go down 29 meters down
the water.

When i went down the slide a few times the lifeguard said that we were not allowed electronic devices, So i had to give it back too my Grandad. Later on the boys left to play in the pool and the girls and me just kept on going down the slide. when we were about too walk up i told them too look up and i said “A dead possum”. They freaked out so much they ran up to the slide. When we came down and about too walk up it’s tail started too move and they started to freak out more. Later on we just chilled out in the pool until nighttime then we went home. They was probably the best day.Image result for share a coke with names cans

This morning TPW were setting up for a poowhiri. It was

the Manuhiri was Milan and the Kai karanga for the
manuhiri is Summure.

Whaea Lee Was welcoming in the manuhiri and Papa T
Whaea’s Husband was Saying all the mihi’s for our side

stand too do a waiata himene and the waiata was He
Honore. When the waiata ended we sat down so that
Papa T started too do his mihi’s about Te wiki oo te
reo Maaori.

He talked about how our reo is dying and that where ever
you go make sure you bring that reo with you. Speak it
and teach other people it. Te Reo starts within the home
first and foremost.

When he finished we got into our last waiata which was
Tini whetu so that we could hand the floor too the
Manuhiri. Their kai korero is Milan he was introducing himself too the tangata whenua. After we were finished
we had a kai and then we went back too class.

Tukutuku panels

Image result for Roimata turuturu pattern
Walt: I know the significance off Tukutuku panels and why
Maaori made them because it is an traditional art form.
They were decorative panels for the traditional wall
construction used inside meeting houses.

Most tukutuku panels are made out of dried stalks of
plants such as toetoe. Roimata means Tears.

In this pattern there are arrows dropping down which
are falling raindrops off big and little. The top layer is
the big ones and the bottom layer is the little ones.
